The NFER authors do however highlight a study by Dr Peter Green of the University of Durham 10 as in their opinion the first real attempt to look in detail at the influence of teachers' attitudes towards pupils from different ethnic minority groups and as having:.
Teaching children from different backgrounds about the history and culture of their parents' countries or origin;. Careers teachers and careers officers, with the strong support of DES and HMI, should encourage ethnic minority youngsters to consider the possibility of entering teaching. The report online Swann was a major report. Its pages contain 16 chapters, 5 appendices and 40 or so tables but no alphabetical subject index. There is also introductory material and a section containing the main conclusions and recommendations.
Many of the chapters include annexes. The report is presented here in its entirety in a single web page. Many of the subheadings in the report were printed in the left-hand margin. I have moved these into the body of the text. In a handful of cases this has meant dividing a paragraph in two. The printed version of the report contained dozens - if not hundreds - of spelling mistakes including 'Hucklebury Finn'!
I have corrected those I noticed. Anything added by way of explanation is shown [in square brackets]. The above notes were prepared by Derek Gillard and uploaded on 16 December ; they were revised on 20 November
